The idea of building a Scale Up program in Rio de Janeiro was a perception and a proposal for public policy. As a concept it was perfect. And it worked in the process of selecting companies. But it was necessary to demonstrate, in practice, that policies aimed at companies with growth potential can make a difference. For that, it was essential that the selected companies were in fact representatives and committed to growth. Growth as the focus and result of a commitment to management and innovation. But someone was missing. A character who would lead the group on this path. More than the concept of Scale Up and the construction of this concept as public policy, Vini represented the construction of the business unit. Vini represented the base, the glue, and the unity of the program. Without it, Scale Up Rio would not have been a success. Although risky, I dare to say that without Vini, Scale Up Rio would not have happened.

I first met Vini (Vincent Onyemah) in 2017 when I enlisted his support to help my Company develop a real and sustainable growth program. Over the course of a couple of days a month for several months, he performed a “deep dive” that looked at our sales, operations and HR practices. He then helped organize the necessary pieces within our business to help propel our business growth to achieve our goals over the past few years. When the pandemic came we suffered as did so many other small businesses but I feel that we survived in part because we had the discipline, processes and procedures in place to react and move quickly to counter adversity. Vini is a charismatic and inspirational leader to all people he comes in contact with. His experience and breadth of knowledge within the business community is astonishing

I would summarize our experience with you under two categories: the human and the professional, both being the best experiences in life but we clearly value the former more. Being an entrepreneur is difficult, things don’t always go well, the mood is usually consistent with the state of things, but you have to be a great “actor”; We cannot let ourselves be seen to fall before those who expect a smile from us, a “yes we can”, a “let’s try again”. Perhaps that is why the support they normally give us is towards strengthening our managerial, financial, commercial, strategic skills, because apparently that is where we falter, but Vini, you are clear that behind this business force we are people, human beings that need to be hugged, motivated, in some more romantic way “carried in arms” and you are that type of human being. By emphasizing our BEING more than DOING (as entrepreneurs), you have given us strength, desire, faith; you have convinced us that you we really can make it happen. You have given us the most energetic hugs we have ever received. That is the most valuable thing to start with. Obviously on a professional level, making us think of growth as the way to work and helping us focus all our efforts towards selling more with strategies that anyone would call “simple” but that have never crossed our minds, has made us better strategists, better salespeople, better entrepreneurs. Your way of seeing people, business and the world, shows us different ways of doing everything, challenges us to think “Why not?” and it also fills us with a force of “Yes, we can” that has kept us all afloat until now, which I think can be classified as one of the most challenging.

For more than 30 years as a business leader and entrepreneur in sectors ranging from heavy industry to software and digital business, I had the opportunity to participate in many courses, workshops and events with the aim of acquiring specific knowledge, but nothing compared to Vini Onyemah’s workshops. In addition to a deep insight into the main aspects related to how the management of a company should be in order to scale quickly, and its method of exposure and teaching, Vini creates a connection with those who learn. This facilitates knowledge assimilation in all forms. More than teaching with the mind and heart, he teaches with the soul. He makes us vibrate intensely while transmitting knowledge. More than making us learn, Vini makes us go through a self-transformation. For us at Trinks, the Growth program was a game changer that brought us the vision and mindset that made our company grow at much higher rates. Vini is an awesome instructor because he challenged what I thought I knew. He challenged me to think bigger. In turn, I was able to do “bigger”. Vini’s teachings oftentimes approached scenarios from a different perspective. In other words, he would take my initial idea and present a whole new perspective that I hadn’t thought of previously. He worked through the details in specificity. In my opinion, he went above and beyond what was expected of him. This is what a good teacher does. One of the workshops that impacted us the most was the one on Sales Process. We were able to understand our sales cycle and adapt it to the products and services we offer, thus increasing our revenue very quickly. We understand how each product/service has a different sales process and how this drives our ability to capture more growth opportunities. Once we implemented our sales process, we started to function as a Suisse clock: we increased, assessed, tracked, and converted more business opportunities. We are in a better position to know which product/service was selling faster and the profile of customers buying them. A year after taking the workshops with Vini and the incredible and rapid growth results those workshops enabled even during the 2020 Pandemic-lockdown, we received several acquisition offers.

Towards the end of year 2018, my business appeared to be stagnant and had me rethinking approach and how to do the rebranding. Being a minority business comes with its own challenges. The “light bulb” came back on when I had an interview with Vini through another program he was spearheading on how to scale-up small businesses. The energy and excitement that Vini brings is very infectious and re-ignited my enthusiasms to be in business. Then comes his lecture series, forget drinking coffee to stay awake, “Vini is the coffee”. All his lecture was on point and we have turned around our business from lessons learned from Vini’s lectures. This was a six months “MBA” that is worth every penny and second! Be prepared to learn and implement!

Basically and succinctly, in the workshops with you, we quickly understood the imperative to grow locally and globally. Our company was 5 years without real growth and we thought that being in a matured and saturated market did not augur for good future. You proved us wrong. The series of workshops we had with you in Manizales Mas was a game changer. Last year we achieved a growth of 45% in sales and 25% in profits. Love, positive thinking and things well done strengthen any team to achieve ambitious goals. My dear Vini, it is really not easy to put into words the aura that is received from a teacher like you.

Vini, despite all your experience and ability, I don’t know if you have a real sense of how important you are to all of us at Scaleup … Without exaggeration, I realized that when you arrived, you light up the environment, you light up our souls. Brother Vini, when I started Scaleup, I was sure that it would be another workshop like the others, and in fact I did not intend to complete it. This is not what happened … That question about the tree that fell in the forest intrigued me and I understood that I was facing something of great value. My participation in Vini’s workshops radically changed the way I run businesses. I changed my business management fundamentals. I attended Vini’s workshops in 2014, teaching me about ways to scale and grow my small business. Aside from being an enthusiastic, excited, and patient teacher, Vini’s class helped me grow my sales from $500,000 to $5,000,000 in four years. They taught us to focus on the 3Cs (Customers, Capacity, and Cash). The awakening for us was when we realized that we lacked a defined growth plan, a right set of metrics, and a culture that choses and celebrates growth events. Thanks to the workshops, we have recorded a 27% growth in sales compared to last year. We increased our margins by 10% and we implemented a marketing program that has allowed us to close an average of 1 client every 45 days, and all these during the Pandemic! Thank you Vini.
